MODEL PROFILE | MODEL FROM NIGERIA - ROMEO IFEANYI MESIK

Romeo Ifeanyi Mesik, also known as Ray, because of his light skinned look, hails from Delta state; he is the 3rd child from four brothers. The 6″3 tall, model, sheds light on how he meddles modelling with getting a degrees in Law and Political science.
How were you discovered?
I actually started modelling at a very young age, but most of the jobs I have done are not in Nigeria. I got in through Steven Blank, a really good fashion photographer. I met him through a friend of mine; he saw me and was amazed, he liked my face and he wanted to try some extreme photography works. It was a really nice experience.
How long have you nurtured the desire to be a model?
I have always wanted to be a model, wanted to express myself and do those things which I normally would not do, wanted to push my boundaries.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by my environment, my wonderful family, my kid brother who is also a model in Nigeria. I also like the fact that I have very liberal parents who love and support what I do.
Who are the designers You have worked with?
I have worked with Mango, did an editorial Ad for Michael Kors last year and I also did a sales promo Ad for Zara Man in the UK last year too.
Modelling as a career,tell us more about the support you get from your family?
I have the best family anyone can wish for, my brothers are extremely cool with what  I am doing, my parents are just too good and very liberal. My dad usually laughs with me over my nude arts. My kid brother is also someone I love very much and he’s very inspiring too. But my dad still wants me to pursue a law career. I have always wanted to be a lawyer.
Do you wish to pursue other ventures in the fashion business? What would it be?
I might go into having my own line of men’s clothing, but not too sure if am ready for that yet.
What are the challenges you face as a model?
hmmm, people seem to judge me too much and even people who don’t know me feel they do and its kinda funny, like on facebook and stuff, but its OK though.

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2011: Glitter, Lace, Wings... And Jay-Z!

NEW YORK -- Believe it or not, the Victoria's Secret fashion show belonged to the boys on Wednesday night.
It was Kanye West, Jay-Z and Maroon 5 who got the audience clapping and cheering at the annual lingerie extravaganza at the Lexington Avenue Armory, quite a feat considering they were sharing the stage with the some of the world's top models -- in barely-there get-ups, no less.
The show, which also featured a song by Nicki Minaj, who was decked out in a bright orange bustier, cosmic-print skirt and leggings, and a frothy pink wig, will be televised on CBS on Nov. 29.
The worlds of fashion and music always come together on this runway, which is more for entertainment, excitement and brand-building than a serious preview of styles. It really clicked this time, though, when Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine escorted his girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna down the catwalk and then planted a kiss on her cheek.

She was wearing a push-up bra covered with a crystal-encrusted body overlay. Model Constance Jablonski strutted to "Moves Like Jagger" in an illusion beaded gown with a feather mermaid hemline, and Karlie Kloss wore a corset-style bodysuit covered in tropical colored beads.
A lot of the backstage buzz before the show was about West, who was originally scheduled for the 2007 show but pulled out after his mother's death. Doutzen Kroes and Chanel Iman were among the top Victoria's Secret models, dubbed VS Angels, who posed with him in their micro-mini pink satin robes and told him they expected his set to be a highlight of the night.
"I lost my super hero," he said when he eventually landed on the runway, "and now she's my super angel."
He started singing and that cued Alessandra Ambrosio to come out in a leather harness, push-up bra, thigh-high leather boots and a long, flowing cape splashed with the word "incredible" in cartoon-style letters trailing behind her. You might also want to try Myanmar's repressive head of state, Senior Gen. Than Shwe.

For a recent televised ceremony, the 78-year-old boss of Asia's most authoritarian regime ditched his army dress uniform in favor of, more simply, a woman's skirt.

Than Shwe appeared at a national holiday event last month wearing a woman's sarong -- or acheik -- and got the country talking. That is, as much as people can talk in an oppressed society.

 

Both men and women wear sarongs in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, but the female version has very distinct patterns, as modeled by Shwe and other generals at the Feb. 12 event.

"I don't understand why the generals were wearing women's [sarongs], but they looked very weird," a Rangoon mechanic by the name of Myint Oo told Time.

Myanmar's population is steeped in superstition. Speculation suggested Than Shwe's questionable fashion choice was an attempt to trick fate after astrologers predicted women will rule Myanmar -- a country where female politician and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi remains popular after spending 15 of the past 21 years under house arrest.

British artist Finn Stone has created a pair of colorful stilettos out of Lego blocks. He says the funky fashion is a throwback to childhood.

 

A pair of playful stilettos can make a woman feel young again -- especially if those high heels are covered in tiny toys from her childhood.

Last month, British artist Finn Stone unveiled one seriously funky fashion accessory at the Affordable Art Fair in London: a pair of stilettos covered in hundreds of colorful little Lego blocks.
Stone, best known for his quirky design work in fiberglass furniture, told AOL News that he went outside the box with his latest art project because, frankly, he wanted to play with Legos. "I was never allowed Legos as a kid, so in a way, this was like going back to childhood. I got to act like a big kid while still creating art," Stone said.

Stone is best known for his work with fiberglass furniture. Recently, he went out on a limb and tried his hand at designing accessories, including Lego shoes and hats.
"I like the idea of taking something serious like a pair of plain stilettos and turning them into something artistic and beautiful. The use of Legos is a throwback to youth."

Besides his urge to play with toys as a grown man, Stone said the idea for his so-called "LEG-GO Stilettos" came about after rummaging through a drawer filled with random junk at his house.

"I always make stuff out of the rubbish I find in that junk drawer, and this time there were a couple of pieces of Legos in there. That sparked the idea to see what I could make out of them."

From there, Stone said he ordered Lego blocks by the boxful and got to work stacking and gluing -- and making his 2-year-old daughter rather envious.

2012 menswear predictions: fashion to get slimline

US menswear manufacturers have noted an increase in male tailored clothing, with slimline suits set to dominate 2012.
A report published December 8 on WWD saw major American menswear retailers highlight an increasing trend towards flattering attire for gentlemen.
American market research company The NPD Group says tailored clothing sales rose more than 11 percent and sales of men’s tailored shirts rose more than 3 percent in the first half of 2011.
Although the trend for slim silhouettes has been attributed to the younger generations, older men are also looking to appear more toned in their attire.
The popularity of slim-style suits and sportswear for all generations has been noted by retailers including Men’s Wearhouse, America’s largest suit seller. The brand’s CEO Doug Ewert explained the increasing popularity of fitted sports coats and dress shirts.
"These looks mostly target a younger customer; however, we’re starting to see growing acceptance among middle-aged customers. A modern fit is cut closer to the body," he explained.
"Other characteristics include narrower lapels on suits and sport coats and narrower ties."
Meanwhile, Brooks Brothers' Lou Amendola explained that customers are "definitely looking for suits in a slimmer silhouette" and in classic colors such as navy, gray and simple pinstripes.

NEW YORK - The first thing you need to know about successful insanity Victoria Secret fashion show is that it is a fashion show at all. There is nothing fashionable about it. Girls are not angry or pout off the runway, high fashion models. These creatures dream come smile. And a nod, wave, dance and blow kisses while wearing next-to-no underwear. VS models are impossible leggy, rail-thin yet voluptuous curves with pretty faces and big smiles, wide. All senior and made taller by 8-inch heels. (Seriously, and it made me extremely nervous and extremely respectful of them -. if none of them even staggered)

For women, the show is a powerful motivator to swear solids. For men, well, they can only dream of. Not sure of the demographics, but last year the fair attracted nearly 9 million viewers in the United States (and which will air in about 100 countries), and I suppose most are men ogling.

The 2011 show, which airs at 9 pm Tuesday on WBBM-Channel 2, was recorded in early November at the Lexington Avenue Armory in New York before a capacity crowd of about 2,000 people. The show is an annual heat bill there are men who were out to offer hundreds of dollars for a pink pass.
